CARIS Services

Communication and Literacy Sessions

I work privately supporting pupils to build their independence skills in three key areas which I believe unlock the key to a more independent and inclusive life: speech/communication; toileting/personal care; literacy. My work is based on extensive professional development in areas such as: PECs, Makaton, Colourful Semantics, conferences, academic journals, and professional and personal experience. Central to my practice is the development of the IEP (Individualised Education Plan) for each child I work with, with clear SMART targets to ensure progress is made.

Testimonial:

“I was struggling badly with Higher English at school. I have Autism and ADHD and the subject was particularly difficult to me. I contacted Susan who immediately put me at ease, re-assuring me that she had dealt with many pupils in my same position. With Susan’s guidance, we structured a learning process and it started to make sense. I recently sat my Higher English exam and came out with a B, a higher grade than I could possibly have imagined, especially seeing where I was at the start. I have no doubts that my improvement was down to the patience and understanding Susan showed me.” – Student
