Expertise and Vision
I am Susan McNamara, a GTCS / PVG registered teacher and educationalist of twenty years, with significant knowledge about autism, Down syndrome, overlapping SpLDs and Speech and Language delay. From an educational background of teaching children English and literacy, time spent working with children on the autism spectrum; to working in groups and individually with children with a range of speech, language, and literacy delays, CARIS was born.
I have an M.A. (hons) in Classics (University of Glasgow), PGCE Classics and English (Merit), University of Strathclyde, and am currently completing a PG Master’s in Special Education.
My most important qualification, however, is mother of Adam, a gregarious nine-year-old with Down syndrome, and through whom grew my deep belief and passion for equipping children with as many skills as possible to ensure they become as independent as possible and reach their full potential.
